Acoustic guitarist, Rick Cyge, has been doing what he loves for 40 years – first in New England where he cut his teeth in the vibrant New England folk music scene and more recently (since 1988) in Arizona performing with his wife and partner, flutist Lynn Trombetta as the group ‘Meadowlark’. Cyge performs on acoustic steel string guitar as well as nylon string guitar and mandolin. Over the years he has blended influences as diverse as contemporary folk and pop, Celtic, Country Blues, New Age and World Music into a signature sound that is uniquely his own. Many of his own compositions are fingerstyle pieces in various open tunings.

I’ve been teaching acoustic fingerstyle guitar for over 40 years! I especially enjoy helping developing guitarists find their own “voice” on the guitar and develop techniques to create their own arrangements of songs and pieces of music as solo fingerstyle guitar pieces. We will explore open tunings, especially “DADGAD”, travis picking styles, and various other tools and techniques for creating your arrangements. For me, teaching at this level is as much about mentoring my students and guiding them on their own journey of exploration and discovery and making sure they are having a good time in that process! If you’d like to study with me, you can arrange lessons either in your home (if you live in the Sedona area) or online through Skype or other video calling services by clicking here!   Or… click on the logo -> GUITARtistry – Inspiring Guitar Lessons! duos and collaborations

In addition to performing solo as both an instrumental fingerstyle guitarist and singer/guitarist, Cyge also collaborates in several duo configurations  and ensembles offering a broad palette of styles and musical experiences. Meadowlark has been Cyge’s primary focus since teaming up with flautist Lynn Trombetta to create and perform original compositions, inspired by nature, with Celtic and world music influences. The newly formed Sedona Guitar Duo with guitarist/bassist Steve Douglas expands the music Cyge arranges for his solo GUITARtistry with the addition of Douglas’s keen ear for harmony and counterpoint.  Douglas weaves his guitar and bass work around Cyge’s strong foundation to create a more complex interpretation of the pieces. Seymour & Cyge teams Cyge with his “partner in crime”, singer/guitarist Chris Seymour to perform a nostalgic mix of songs from the Baby Boomer era on twin guitars and vocals.  In live performance, the banter between the two is reminiscent of the Smothers Brothers melding lighthearted humor into the...

Over the past several years, Cyge has established himself in Sedona and Northern Arizona as a popular and respected instrumental fingerstyle guitarist arranging a variety of “Baby Boomer” classic songs for solo guitar.  While his focus over the past twenty five years has been instrumental music, both as a soloist and in his guitar/flute duo with his wife, Lynn Trombetta as Meadowlark, his roots run deep in folk and acoustic music where he spent much of his music career as a singer/guitarist.  For much of his career, he performed his unique arrangements of classic and contemporary folk and “singer/songwriter” songs as well as his own songs in folk clubs, coffeehouses and concerts.  During his years in Boston and New England (1978-88), he created and ran Wood & Strings Music Center, a folk music school, guitar and recording shop and concert venue that quickly became one of the hubs for the vibrant folk & acoustic music scene.  During that time, he came to know many of the upcoming singer/songwriters and singer/guitarists who were to become well established national artists over time.  It was artists like Chris Smither, Patty Larkin, Nancy Griffith, John Gorka, and David Wilcox who shaped his own style and tastes in regards to repertoire and stage presence as he incorporated their songs into his sets.  Cyge has a keen ear for exceptional songs with well crafted guitar accompaniment that, together, create a memorable listening experience for his listeners.

Greg Lawson Gallereum features Lawson’s exquisite nature and wildlife photography created from travels to every corner of the world. Cyge comments, “The photography is an overwhelming feast for the eye!  I am excited to be performing in this inspiring setting.”
