bio

Acoustic guitarist, Rick Cyge, has been doing what he loves for 40 years – first in New England where he cut his teeth in the vibrant New England folk music scene and more recently (since 1988) in Arizona performing with his wife and partner, flutist Lynn Trombetta as the group ‘Meadowlark’. Cyge performs on acoustic steel string guitar as well as nylon string guitar and mandolin. Over the years he has blended influences as diverse as contemporary folk and pop, Celtic, Country Blues, New Age and World Music into a signature sound that is uniquely his own. Many of his own compositions are fingerstyle pieces in various open tunings.

teaching

I’ve been teaching acoustic fingerstyle guitar for over 40 years! I especially enjoy helping developing guitarists find their own “voice” on the guitar and develop techniques to create their own arrangements of songs and pieces of music as solo fingerstyle guitar pieces. We will explore open tunings, especially “DADGAD”, travis picking styles, and various other tools and techniques for creating your arrangements. For me, teaching at this level is as much about mentoring my students and guiding them on their own journey of exploration and discovery and making sure they are having a good time in that process! If you’d like to study with me, you can arrange lessons either in your home (if you live in the Sedona area) or online through Skype or other video calling services by clicking here!   Or… click on the logo -> GUITARtistry – Inspiring Guitar Lessons! duos and collaborations

In addition to performing solo as both an instrumental fingerstyle guitarist and singer/guitarist, Cyge also collaborates in several duo configurations  and ensembles offering a broad palette of styles and musical experiences. Meadowlark has been Cyge’s primary focus since teaming up with flautist Lynn Trombetta to create and perform original compositions, inspired by nature, with Celtic and world music influences. The newly formed Sedona Guitar Duo with guitarist/bassist Steve Douglas expands the music Cyge arranges for his solo GUITARtistry with the addition of Douglas’s keen ear for harmony and counterpoint.  Douglas weaves his guitar and bass work around Cyge’s strong foundation to create a more complex interpretation of the pieces. Seymour & Cyge teams Cyge with his “partner in crime”, singer/guitarist Chris Seymour to perform a nostalgic mix of songs from the Baby Boomer era on twin guitars and vocals.  In live performance, the banter between the two is reminiscent of the Smothers Brothers melding lighthearted humor into the...

Get Your Tickets: Fingerstyle Guitarist Rick Cyge performs music of The Beatles in Concert on Saturday, May 27th in Sedona!

Posted by on May 3, 2017 in gig news!

West Sedona’s new dinner and music concert series continues this month as fingerstyle guitar master, Rick Cyge shares your favorites from The Beatles. Performed instrumentally on acoustic guitar with all the subtle harmonies and intricate counterpoint of their brilliant music, the evening promises an uplifting and nostalgic journey into shared musical memories of the past!

Tickets (please use drop down menu below to select # of tickets desired. DO NOT select the quantity of tickets desired on the paypal screen.)

“We have put together a perfect Sedona evening out for each night of the new monthly concert series which offers a memorable evening of dining, live music and stunning photographic art,” producer/guitarist Rick Cyge said. “This new music series is collaboration with two of West Sedona’s finest restaurants, Golden Goose American Grill and Gerardo’s Italian Kitchen and the treasure that is Greg Lawson Galleries. All are within a short walk or drive of one another. By purchasing concert tickets in advance, concert-goers will receive discount coupons for use for dinner the night of the show.”

With a Beatles repertoire of more than fifty of their songs, Cyge comments, “The hardest part of putting this concert set together is deciding which gems to include! Re-experience The Beatles’ vast and varied music from the early hit, ‘I Saw Her Standing There’, to their later gems including ‘Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds’!”

Respected and admired by peers and fans for his playing finesse and prowess and as a composer and arranger known for his subtle and intricate approach to coaxing what often sounds like more than one guitar out of his instrument. “For this special concert I invite you to experience the “Fab Four” performed on one guitar!”

His love affair with the acoustic guitar began about fifty years ago when, barely old enough to handle a guitar, he first heard the likes of ‘Peter, Paul & Mary’ and the ‘Kingston Trio’. That was enough to get his attention and fire his imagination.  “When I first heard The Beatles, I was barely 13 and my world was forever changed. ‘That’s what I want to do!’ I thought.”

Cyge has nine CDs to his credit, many with his wife in the duo, ‘Meadowlark,’ and numerous projects as a sideman in the studio for various artists. In the last few years, Cyge has recorded and released two self-produced solo fingerstyle guitar CDs, “GUITARtistry” and “GUITARtistry 2” featuring his guitar artistry through his arrangements of what he refers to as “Baby Boomer Classics” with a few original compositions included. The next recording project in cue is an entire CD of his own arrangements of the songs of The Beatles.  “I’m very excited about this project as I devote my undivided attention to polishing and refining my versions of many of my favorite Beatles songs.  I feel like a kid in a candy store; so much extraordinary music to choose from, so little space on a CD!”  Cyge hopes to complete and release this recording before year’s end.  This concert will be a glimpse into that adventure!

Greg Lawson Galleries features Lawson’s exquisite nature and wildlife photography created from travels to every corner of the world. Cyge commented, “The photography is an overwhelming feast for the eye!  I am excited to be performing in this inspiring setting.”

Dinner at either restaurant is optional, and note that the concert is at a separate location. The Golden Goose American Grill is located in west Sedona at 2545 W. Hwy 89A.
