AN ANONYMOUS LETTER...

“It is amazing to me how such simple instruments are so simple until they are put together. Then they turn into something so magical and delightful to the heart that it becomes a spiritual experience. I am 16. I say this to let you know that your music does not only appeal to the adults. You truly have touched my soul. Thank you.”

-An anonymous note passed to Meadowlark after a performance

at the Desert Botanical Gardens in Phoenix, AZ (December 1998).

DESCRIPTION OF PERFORMANCE

Best described by reviewers as “Joyful Celebratory Music”, the music of Meadowlark is a magical mixture of Rick Cyge’s (pronounced siggy) acoustic guitar brilliance and Lynn Trombetta’s sensuous flute and pennywhistles. Original compositions melding influences as diverse as Celtic, African, and Mediterranean transport the listener from sandy beaches to the drama of the desert, to the skies over the African plains and far beyond.

Thomas Blaney, Foothills Sentinel, wrote, “Cyge’s masterful classical fingerstyle and string tapping with open tuning on his choice Lowden guitar evokes exquisitely rich tones. The effervescent flute and pennywhistles of Lynn Trombetta intertwine with uncommonly joyous grace, taking this usually bucolic instrument pairing well beyond expectations!”

In concert, Cyge and Trombetta offer delightful creative insight into the stories behind each of their compositions. Pieces such as “Tan Man Dance” (a playful jazz-tinged visual of a concert-goer dancing blissfully to the music on a sunny afternoon), “FreeFall” (a smooth, easy latin-ish fall away from the gravity of earth), “Creek Spirit”, (a sultry Mediterranean flavored composition recalling Trombetta’s childhood experiences playing her flute in the canyons of Sedona) and “Circle of Giants” (a dreamy walk through the majestic redwoods) take listeners on the journey into their own imaginations with these very visual pieces.

Meadowlark performs in various configurations from the core duo to a full five piece ensemble. Robert Walmsley, Omega Directory, describes Meadowlark ensemble performances: “Delicious flutes, energetic guitar, soaring keyboards, world percussion and other various instruments create a wonderfully uplifting, instrumental voyage...”. Intimate concerts performed by the duo and trio have been likened to “...a priceless ticket to ride over the hills and dales of your imagination!”

In addition to their concert performances, Meadowlark offers assemblies and workshops for youth as well as seminars and lectures for adults and college students who wish to explore their own creative processes. When interviewed on what they most like about sharing their music with audiences and seminar attendees, Trombetta is quick to respond, “We are very pleased to have opportunities to present a program that so clearly delivers the message that creativity is a universal possession...not something that you have to “find” nor is it something that can be lost.”

By the way...

Cyge & Trombetta lived in Sedona from 2009-2020.  During that time, in addition to continuing to perform as Meadowlark, Rick pursued a solo fingerstyle guitar career eventually earning enough respect and popularity to keep himself booked virtually every night playing to the ever changing tourist crowds at various restaurants, hotels, wine bars and concert venues in the region.  It was during this time that for 2 consecutive years, 2018 & 2019, he was voted Reader's Choice Award Winner for Best Musician in Kudos, the weekly arts and entertainment paper for Verde Valley and Sedona!
