My mom was my hero and my best friend.
Many years ago, after spending four months traveling across the country, my wife and I returned home because Mom was losing her battle with cancer. We found a place nearby, knowing our time with her would be short.
One evening, I sat with her in the den. The room was quiet. I picked up my guitar and sang Murray McLauchlan's beautiful Child's Song.
As I sang, tears filled her eyes... and mine.
Neither of us needed to say much after that. The song expressed what words never quite could.
I still can't hear Child's Song without thinking of Mom.
It reminds me that music isn't just something we hear.

Sometimes it's how we say thank you.
Sometimes it's how we say I love you.

And sometimes...
it's how we say goodbye.
